Please do not leave stuff in your car-Not where it's visiable from the outside. If thieves cannot see anything worth taking, the less likely they are to ransack it. I never leave anything visable in my car-but I see others leaving behind thier GPS units, change, etc. Put it in the trunk or take it with you.

As anywhere else in the country-small towns included- be aware of your surroundings and call the cops if you see anything weird. I grew up in a small town and it now has the same problems as larger areas, so size and population is not a protector.

The only thing that really bothers me about this, is the southern accent thing. I really don't hear much of one through most of the metro. I honestly yearn to hear the drawl that I believe is dying through most of the south. The accent my grandparents had is quickly disappearing through the more mobile society we live in. Regional dialects throughout the country are quickly disappearing. Did you honestly think that to move to the south, you would hear no one with an accent?
I smile every time I hear the sweet long drawl of a true and gracious southern accent!

Btw, there is a definitive difference between a true southern accent, and a more 'country' accent. I don't think either are anything to be ashamed of, however it does elude to one's socioeconomic status.

Yeah, because that kind of stuff never happens in any other city in the United States .

Is this a difference of male/female perception of danger?

No, just the opposite...we have some OFFENSIVE members here. No need to paint the picture any other way than what it actually is.

It was once such a fine place to live, but, the ELECTED city officials have run the place into the ground. Poor money management, little care has been given to keep their fire & police force funded properly!

I'll take the advice and move to Mayberry, since nowhere else is safe..Thanks .

Hhmm, this sounds like NYC...no wait...Miami.....no, no more like Detroit..
Really, how old are you? Sounds like anxiety issues, not Atlanta issues.

I wouldn't say so...I feel like some people suffer from anxiety issues, more than anything else. Let's read their posts again....(The Op has got to be either someone who never lived in a big city, or reached the age, where a place like Mayberry, or a small north GA town would suit her better). We know every place has issues, but stop sounding the alarm over nothing )
