The Varsity is terrible. If you want a good place to eat hot dogs, Guido's Chicago Style Hot Dogs is the place. They have real Chicago-style hot dogs with neon-green relish, tomato wedge, mustard, the works. You can also get gyros and Italian beef sandwiches. It's good stuff. What is baffling is everytime I get something from their, it looks like business is slow, even at lunch time I don't see alot of people. The Varsity, despite its relatively low quality, manages to be crowded. I should know because I have been there. The problem is not that there isn't good food. The problem is that the good places aren't brimming with people and the average places are.

The Varsity is an institution in Atlanta...institutions don't have to be good. It stays busy because of it's fame and because it is right beside Georgia Tech - hence the name (as in varsity sports).

I understand what you are trying to say and I respect that. With that said, this is my own take. An institution should be good.

I was just trying to help you understand why it's so busy all the time. It's not because of the food, but because of the 1. fame and 2. location. I don't think most people go there for the food, although the chilli dogs are not bad.

Different tastes for different people.

I went to The Barfity err Varsity one time...that was enough for me! I was expecting so much more and left very dissapointed but I understand the charm and draw of the place is because of the atmosphere.

Dude, I never said it was good. I said the draw of the place is it's historic fame and it's location. That's the 3rd time I've posted that same information. It's not about different tastes.

Thank you! Talk about good chicken and great waffles! YUM!

When I lived there, I would go to Felini's or Mellow Mushroom for good pizza.
El Azteca for good mexican food and margaritas.
The Fish Market, Scalini's...gosh there are so many good restaurants there with good food, you really can't go wrong!

Felini's, and its copy-cat Savage (or maybe it's the other way around) is the BEST pizza place. People make such a big deal about NYC pizza, but it's just large and floppy, not particularly delightful. Felini's sicilian is excellent, and their fresh ingredients put their pizza over the top. Their salads are amazing as well.
