Moving to Alpharetta and want to buy home in country club development. Our budget is $600K. We have 2 young kids and a dog. We liked Crooked Creek ...anyone have any opinions about Crooked Creek? Is there a better community for us in Alpharetta? Thank you!

With housing prices down, you have your pick of neighborhoods. Crooked Creek is nice, but the area just outside can get congested with traffic. You might also check out White Columns, Providence Lakes and Providence at Atlanta National.

If you want a lower tax base consider St. Marlo, Windermere and Laurel Springs. They are in Forsyth County. And all are upscale golf course communities.

Other very nice lower tax subdivisions in Forsyth that you may be able to get in your price range are Creekstone Estates, Cascade Run, and Turnberry.

Those aren't exactly country clubs (golf) as OP suggested.

Thanks for pointing that out. I guess it depends upon where a person is moving from along with their definition of a country club. Even though those developments do not have golf, none of them are just a normal development with only homes. They all have full clubhouses with exercise facilities, kitchens, large meeting spaces, etc as well as swim and tennis amenities. In addition, Creekstone Estates also has a playfield, tot lot, fishing lake, Tennis Pro Shop, and an Activities Director. Another example is Cascade Run. It is a part of Grand Cascades which also has Chattahoochee River access, two lakes, nature trails, tot lot, baseball field, multiple large playfields, basketball court, volleyball court, and has a very active community with many different committees and clubs.

Thanks for the info...I think aside from Crooked Creek we are looking into the Gated Communities in Alpharetta. Not sure we want to go as far out as Cumming. We want to be close to 400 as my husband will have to fly often.

We looked at some houses in Windward and they were pretty run down definitely not how they appeared online. We were disappointed but willing to still entertain the subdivision.

Not Alpharetta- but Roswell;
another idea- Horseshoe Bend. Great school district (Centennial H.S.). NIce golf course- played several times (I like it better than C. C.- also played several times).
