I am relocating from Boston, MA to Fairburn, GA next month. My wife and daughter will be arriving after the New Years from the Dominican Republic. My daughter is in the fourth grade and I was wondering if anyone had more information about elementary schools in the Fairburn, GA area that offer ESL for elementary international students. I am hoping that upon arrival she will be able to continue the school year and not lose 1/2 the school year. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Are you working in Fairburn and/or have you already committed to housing there?

Then your school will be assigned to you. I believe Fairburn is in Fulton County.

FCBOE - Student Assignment Office 404-763-6801 (http://www.fultonschools.org/dept/studentassignment/ - broken link)

Make sure you also understand what she needs to register. Fulton County is fairly strict...

FCSS - New to Fulton (http://www.fultonschools.org/newtofulton_registration.asp - broken link)

The contact information on this page will help you figure out what school your child will attend. All GA schools must offer ESL services, so that won't be a problem. Fulton County Schools should be able to "translate" your child's transcript to try and keep her on track.

School starts back around January 4th -- will she be here by then?

Does she speak any English at all?

Thank you very much for the information. She speaks little English. Has been taking English classes and knows some of the basics but since she doesn't use it much outside the classroom it's limited. Im trying to get them here before the transfer deadline in the school so she won't lose her year of school.
