I was recently charged almost $5,000 for a 14x17 room in Decatur. I am posting here to see if I was over or under charged.

The room is 14x17, 13x15 conservatively for a complete square. IT has a closet and door, fireplace, and three windows.

What they did was take all the plaster out, frame the windows, doors, and had to redo the supports behind the wall for the fireplace. The molding is included. They installed a ceiling fan(I didn't ask for this.). And did some electrical stuff, so I have two outlets and a light switch I cannot use until I get the breaker changed. Otherwise, it looks good.

Was it worth it?

I'm a former Decatur resident, but I'm not clear on what you are asking. Did you buy this room for $5000? Rent it? And if so, is that $5k a year, or a month? Rental or commercial space? And where in Decatur is it located--that can make a big difference?

Sounds like an addition? The price doesn't seem bad at all.

It was renovated. Construction work. Not renting.

Got it. Wow, as an addition, that seems like a great price.

Was the electrical work permitted?- Was the job permitted, period?
Because if you only have 2 receptacles- it ain't to code.
Was insulation installed in the walls?
Obviously, there are way too many questions here- you were too vague.
My guess- you got what you paid for.

Sounds pretty good to me. I've had friends that paid more than twice that for a similar addition.

Probably because it was done correctly. And it was permitted.
The company had insurance, yada, yada, yada!

From the OP's description, it was an existing room that he had gutted, not an actual addition. Did they put up drywall after they took down the plaster, since you say molding is included? So, basically, they gutted the room, reworked some supports and framed out the openings, updated the wiring and installed a ceiling fan, and maybe re-hung drywall? Is that right?
