The main problem I see there is your DH's commute to Vinings...ugh! Holcomb Bridge Road (your only option to get in and out of Horseshoe Bend) can be downright hideous at peak hours as well.
Most people take Eves Road to Riverside to 120 as opposed to Holcomb.

Across the river would be the western part of Buckhead (property taxes will go up considerably once you leave Cobb and enter the city of Atlanta), and while you will find a couple of good public elementary schools there (Warren Jackson, Morris Brandon), the middle and high schools leave a lot to be desired; most residents opt for private school there.
The thing about the golf course communities is that they tend to be located pretty far out, so your DH's commute would not a fun one. However, in East Cobb you would have proximity to the Atlanta Country Club.

Welcome to the Atlanta Country Club

Also, in East Cobb you have the Indian Hills Country Club. You will have many lovely options to choose from if you look in Indian Hills.

Indian Hills

With Indians Hills, you'd have the choice of two school clusters. About 2/3 of the country club neighborhoods attends Eastside Elementary, Dickerson Middle, and Walton High. 1/3 of the neighborhoods attends Eastvalley Elementary, East Cobb Middle, and Wheeler High. All six schools are good.

The Atlanta Country Club is Sope Creek Elementary, Dickerson Middle, and Walton High. Good schools.

*Indians Hills Country Club and Atlanta Country Club are two beautiful neighborhoods!

I hope this helps. Good Luck!

Marietta Country Club

That would be a good option.

The schools would then be Hayes Elementary, Pine Mountain Middle, and Kennesaw Mountain High. Good schools as well.

Marietta Country Club

Another great, family-friendly country club option just north of the Marietta Country Club is the Pinetree Country Club in Kennesaw (with a decent commute to Vinings and good schools).

Pinetree Country Club - Home

The schools (good!) are Kennesaw Primary, Big Shanty Intermediate, Palmer Middle, and North Cobb High.

*Pinetree Country Club and Marietta Country Club are also two beautiful neighborhoods!

Good Luck!

We looked at the Marrietta Country Club when we were considering Kennesaw. The club is absolutely beautiful and extremely well maintained. The staff was extremely helpful and welcoming.
