You don't say how large a place you're looking for, but I'll put in my 2 cents for Decatur. You could find a small house or townhome in your price range in the City of Decatur or a larger house in North Decatur (30033 unincorporated DeKalb). City of Decatur has better schools and is a wonderful small town where you have quick access to everything and a relatively quick commute downtown (about 15 minutes at 3a to anywhere from 30-45 minutes during rush hour unless you take the train which is located in the middle of the courthouse square). Check out the city web site at
City of Decatur, GA . It provides a great mix of urban/suburban with lots of amenities (shops, restaurants, parks) in a very laid-back, friendly, residential area -- very much a small college town vibe because of the proximity to Emory University and Agnes Scott College.
