I'm planning to moving to Atlanta, in April 2010, and I need advice on great neighborhoods, I am aware that it would help to provide some basic info. I'm working from home and my housing price range is not a concern. I coming down, to visit for the first time to get a feel for different neighborhoods, and Atlanta in general, I've never been. I gonna be renting a house, and would prefer suburb neighborhood or a mixture of urban and suburban. I want a nice, quiet, low crime, neighborhood that's close to a Walmart. :-) I don't want to be in the heart of the city, but still not too far away, my daughter attends an all gifted school, and I want to keep that up, it doesn't have to be all gifted but at least a great school with a gifted department. That's my main concerns, great neighborhoods, great or good schools, and not in the heart of the city, and also multicultural neighborhood would be great. Thanks. Personally, I love Ansley Park. Moved here a few years ago and we love it (came from NYC). Big back yard, not far from shops and the community is very involved - you can be as involved as you want. They have a security coop (hired cops that patrol every night so low crime), leafy green and gorgeous, old houses with big back yards and you are in the heart of midtown (don't worry, it is near a Target and a Walmart!
We have a diner's club (you dine with your neighbors ever two months so over the course of ten years you meet everyone) and there is a very active events committee (movies in the spectacular parks), happy hours in the parks, huge dog run, book clubs, art festivals, tour of homes, caroling at christmas, huge halloween neighborhood events - it feels like a small town in the heart of the city. I am willing to talk more to you about it but it is just awesome for kids too - near all good private schools and you actually talk to your neighbors.

We have a diner's club (you dine with your neighbors ever two months so over the course of ten years you meet everyone) and there is a very active events committee (movies in the spectacular parks), happy hours in the parks, huge dog run, book clubs, art festivals, tour of homes, caroling at christmas, huge halloween neighborhood events - it feels like a small town in the heart of the city. I am willing to talk more to you about it but it is just awesome for kids too - near all good private schools and you actually talk to your neighbors.
