careful out there!

Subj: Robbery at Wachovia ATM

Read below about a robbery Sunday morning at the Wachovia at
Clairmont and Briarcliff - and be cautious out there!

At approximately 7:00 a.m. on Sunday 1/3/10, my husband, Henry, was
held up at the ATM of the Wachovia at Clairmont and Briarcliff (next
to the IHOP). The guy came around from the back . The only car in the
parking lot was a taxi that was facing toward Clairmont.

The driver appeared to be reading the paper and police are uncertain
as to whether the taxi is related to the crime. The male came around
from the back of the bank. He was in dark clothes and wearing a hat
and did not have his face covered.

The police have been notified as has the manager of the bank. From
what we know so far, I am the second person within a month to have
been held up at this ATM and the police also told me that there have
been some similar incidences at the Bank of America on N. Druid Hills
Rd.

Just wanted to let everyone know to be aware and police said do not
go to this ATM when it is dark.

Thank you!

NDHRA

That ATM creeps me out...I never use it when I'm alone. You are very exposed there. Another one to avoid is the Wachovia ATM at Cheshire Bridge and LaVista. Both are located right off of the interstate (particularly popular targets with the local thugs), and both have more than one robbery incident in their history.

This is just a little too close to home for me........

I also avoid this ATM.

People that bank with Wachovia need to remember that there is an ATM inside every QT. Please use them.

Scary stuff -- this is the closest ATM to my office. I avoid it mostly because of the bat-poop insane traffic at lunch here, but now I have a new reason.

I agree that this is way too easy a target because of the proximity to an interstate exit. There has been a lot of crime near my Clairmont office on the other side of the interstate due to, I assume, the getaway convenience. for instance, a coworker who lives in a gated apartment near this exit was robbed twice in a 6-month period, and this happened right after a woman was robbed at gunpoint in our office parking lot.

I walk this area and believe me I am going to find another route.

Gotta say it---Buford Highway. Lots of foot traffic --the crossing of Clairmont Rd goes on without bothering with croswalks, etc goes on around here.

I was getting some gas one Sunday night around 11 PM at the QT at N.Druid Hills and Briarcliff went inside to pay and one or two other customers were inside. After 11PM QT has its debit machines set to monitor transactions more strictly or something---there was a discussion with the clerk and finally I finished the transaction and went back to my car. A white male, tall --wearing a large jacket, driving some sort of Jeep/SUV/don't know the names or all those larger vehicles---he came over to me and said, 'Lady can I kiss your breasts'---I was terrified. There was one other customer in the parking lot--had locked himself out of his car and needed $30 to contact AAA--I believe he said. He did say if he had been in his vehicle he would have chased the piece of crap---but the sicko drove away.

I informed the employee of the incident. A few days later I told another employee about this--she said, 'You should contact QT yourself.' I contacted DeKalb PD one Sat afternoon--not happy with the QT's empolyees' response. There is a 'Safe Place' sign with a woman holding a child at this QT and I waited there for an officer. He took the FYI and I assume had some discussion with the management of QT. They have a few very large employees and it was my thought that several of them should be on duty at night ---this time last year---3 women were assaulted in this area---so if you live in the area---buy the mace--I did ---don't take any chances.

DeKalb PD will respond as quickly as they can---busy with lots of 'things' but they certainly will make an effort to Protect and Serve, grateful for that.

Stay safe out there.

And I would say---stay away from the Chamblee Walmart. Things are not going well there, jmo.

Smile crime is rampant, where are the police???

This tip is the same for every area, Buckhead, Midtown, East Atlanta, Druid Hills, Phipps plaza, you name it
Our city has been ignored for 8 years while Pennington took a nap and Shirley did zip but try to get her photo everywhere she could until the world found out she was not the best mayor, whoops, let's recall that us news report

How could we even bring th police chief here from New Orleans when New orleans had the and still does the highest or one of them, now so does Atlanta, highest crime rates per capita in this country
I mean hello, voters why would you re elect Shirley after her firt 4 years of crime and she hired the worst police chief in the world?
This is why you have high crime, so let's wake up and demand reed and whomever his new chief is get touch on crime
This is a disgrace as Atlanta rocks, our leaders do not

There have been ongoing meetings about the plans for developing the area and there are periodic clean up days for the community so hopefully at some point things will improve.

After 2-4??? years the Walgreens at the intersection of Briarcliff/NDH looks like it may open in a few months and maybe some new places to eat will be included in this shopping center.

I haven't had any further problems at the QT except that it is often very, very busy and some of the customers become impatient and seem inclined to toward aggression if they cannot find an open pump very quickly. I accept that is now customary and try to stay out of the way.
