So, I've accepted a new position in Atlanta, and will be moving at the end of January. I am having to do a lot of this pre-move work, including selection from Charlotte, and doing it on the web isn't ideal, for sure. I am including the following facts, as per the sticky at the top of the forum.

1. Budget- no more than $900 a month.
2. House/Condo/Townhome?- Any of those will work. No apartments.
3. Employment Status(commute/work from home) I will be working off of Howell Mill Rd. and 75. My wife is looking for a teaching position currently.
4. Children(public school vs. private) NONE.
5. Suburban or Urban lifestyle preference or a mix of the two- Mix of the two is fine, doesn't matter as much. Don't want to get shot, or have my car broken into or set on fire.
6. Easy access to public transit, important or not? Not important. My job won't allow me to use it very often.
7. Preferable demographics of desired neighborhood. Again, convenient to food, shopping. Safe. Friendly. Good commute to work.

Is there a service or something I should be taking advantage of to find a good condo around there?

$900/month is going to be tough if you're not interested in an apartment. It's likely that you're going to either end up in a somewhat undesirable area, or have to commute in from fairly far out in the suburbs.

To rent a condo, townhome or house for $900 you may have to look to the suburbs of Atlanta. If I were you, I would look at Marietta to avoid horrendous commute times.

I would make sure you come for a visit before deciding on a place. I recently landed a job in ATL as well and trust me some of the ads made the place look nice when it wasn't at all! Clt isn't that far so I would drive down one weekend if you can to look first hand. Look at craigslist for condos for rent in midtown, buckhead and etc.

Check craigslist for condo rentals/sublets. They are generally cheaper and I have rented one (a few years ago) for in your price range in Midtown. The midrise buildings are usually better priced.

Nope. Using Google Map's street view, it appears as though the area of the townhome we were looking at wasn't necessarily what we were looking for. We have expanded out a bit, even up to Woodstock, before realizing the commute from there would be too much. We are using Craigslist and ajc.com's classifieds section, and will be heading down there Wednesday and Thursday.

You might want to check out Vinings. It's a great area, some affordable apartments are there, and your commute would be under 15 minutes.

Thanks John. Like I said in my other post, we've signed a lease on a condo in Smyrna, really like it. Thanks for all the advice. I love city-data.
