Yes, but here's the thing....how many people coming to the US to see the World Cup would come through Atlanta, especially if they're coming from Africa (with that lovely 16 hour flight from Joburg)?

And if Atlanta is a host city then that means they get a game. And if there's a lot of flights to Atlanta I bet that means a lot of people stay to watch that game...cause it's the first stop.

I am so excited about this for so many reasons...and it's at LEAST 8 years away!

"The United States has withdrawn its bid to host the 2018 World Cup soccer tournament and will concentrate on trying to land the 2022 tournament." Interesting. Wonder why that is.

It is explained the article in the last few paragraphs.

I think it was a smart move.

Now, I'm all about Russia 2018!

Too good. Won't happen.

We only have 1 stadium, so more will have to be built. Who will pay for that? The chinese could afford to build as they needed and SA already had those built

Bitter, or realistic? Over-exaggerating Atlanta's importance on the national stage and getting excited over trivial rankings just exudes insecurity. There were a dozen other cities in the running before the bid was withdrawn. Do you think these other cities were getting all worked up on their various C-D threads? Probably not.
