Ok, ATL folks, what's this about. Surely you folks can't agree with this...

Atlanta’s lack of nightlife leaves visitors bored
Article: Downtown Atlanta visitors ask: Where's the nightlife? | ajc.com (http://www.ajc.com/business/content/business/stories/2008/12/29/atlanta_nightlife.html - broken link)

Well, Atlanta is a fairly boring city when compared to its peer cities. Strip mall nightclubs and restaurants are lame. And that's what Atlanta has.

The thread should be titled "Downtown's lack of nightlife" since that's what the article is referencing. Beyond that, the article covers the reasons for the situation pretty well.

They should just move the clubs and bars to the Westside and have the APD patrol for 24 hours.

Actually, "Downtown" is not in the title of the article. That comes up in the website header, but the title of the article is exactly as I referenced in the title of the thread. Also, the last time I checked, Buckhead, which the article references repeatedly, is not in Downtown Atlanta.

It mentions Buckhead once in explaining the historical perspective on Atlanta's former reputation as a party city but the article is CLEARLY about Downtown and its convention industry.

Both ACVB and GWCC board members agreed that getting nightlife downtown is easier said than done. To attract after-hours hotspots, more residents will have to move downtown and suburbanites, many of whom view the area as unsafe, will have to visit more frequently than an occasional sporting event

I have been saying this for years, there is nothing to do downtown; especially party. When I say downtown, I mean DT. Like Peachtree past Courtland, where a majority of the hotels are. I think Club Bed was down there a few years back, but has closed.

The bad news is it will most likely get worse before it gets better. Because of the over saturated condo market, there are no new buildings being built that would support new trendy nightlife venues DOWNTOWN, especially in the off seasons.

I say this once again, we need to clean up DT, enough homeless vagrants annoying tourists. We need dramatic changes.

Here is a testament of how pathetic it is down there. I was waiting for a ride a few months back in front of 260 Peachtree (where I worked at the time) and for the 12th time that day I was asked for money. But while one bum was asking me for money another bum came up and asked him for money not realizing that he was a bum himself. Once they sorted things out, they then notice that I was still standing there, and both (in tandem) ask me for money. I walked away shaking my head.

Ok, for the record, I'm not saying at all that I agree with this article. But, for the record, here are some more quotes, including a beginning sub heading..

"Hospitality industry confronts city’s loss of party-town reputation"

"And it’s a 180-degree change for a city that was once considered a party town because of Buckhead"

"Moves to curtail hours and efforts to revitalize Buckhead with high-end development have effectively killed its party reputation."

Again, Buckhead is not, nor has it ever been, considered part of Downtown Atlanta. So the question is, if this article is all about Downtown, then why are they even mentioning Buckhead? Like I said, I'm not saying I agree with the article, I'm just saying, let's be clear what the article is about.

Oh, so people can't go get their door-to-door drunk on in Buckhead anymore? Boo-hoo-frickin-hoo.
