Hey all!
I am coming to Atlanta for a very quick weekend trip (late Friday night, leaving Sunday). Just wondering where young black professionals hang out on weekends, or what do they do? I know for sure we'll be going to the Aquarium, trying some restaurants. What do you recommend doing? Where is a good place to get a reasonable mani/pedi? Are there any real "must-do's" in ATL? Thanks for the help! oh yeah, we're staying in the Mid-town area.

Since you're going to the Aquarium, Luckie Lounge (a bar, restaurant, and lounge) is right next door and it's fun. Go early (9/10 pm), as the later it gets the more expensive the cover.

Rare, a fabulous soul food tapas lounge, is reopening this weekend. Their reopening is this Saturday, and they close around 1 am. If you want to hang even later, its sister restaurant, harlem bar, closes at 3 am. Even later than that is Glady's and Ron's Chicken and Waffles, which closes at 4 am. There are often celebrity sightings at this spot, which makes it even more of draw for folks.

If you want a more lounge type atmosphere, there's a few spots in Castleberry Hill. At one point it seemed CH would really jump off in the nightlife scene, so while they've got some nice places to check out, there's not enough here to keep me excited. Nevertheless, fuse and Pearl are nice if you want to get away from the typical midtown scene. No Mas Cantina is a great Tex-Mex type restaurant that's pretty popular as well in this area. They are all walking distance from each other, btw.

For mani/pedis Jazmin Spa in Little 5 Points gets good reviews. My mother wasn't too fond of their her pedi but many others disagree and Jazmin is reasonably priced. If you want to do some daytime shopping (or window shopping :-) Little 5 is the best place for boutiques in the city IMO. I'm more into funky than trendy and they've got it all out there.

Finally, Murphy's is a popular brunch spot in Virginia Highlands on Sundays, and I love it. Flying Buscuit in midtown is great as well, but I like the hood and atmosphere of Murphy's better.

That's basically it! There are way more places in the A to check out, but since your trip is limited, those are some good highlights that will let you see different neighborhoods with different vibes. Enjoy!

How is the new one compared to the old one? I might have to check it out myself one of these days!

I have to say that the only think I really like about the World of Coke is the Tasting Room. The rest of it is a shameless marketing glut.

I know - Debbie Downer of me.
