Hello, my husband and I are planning to move to Ga in a year. His company has an office in Atlanta and they have already offered him a position. We have an 11 yr old daughter and 3 dogs. We are looking for an area where we can buy an older home for around $70K. I would like an area that is low crime, and less then 30 mins from Atlanta. We are planning to come down this summer, we live in Pa now, but we want to come down and scope out the area, just thought ya'll could point us into the right direction. Thanks!

Kimmy

'An older home for $70K'---'less than 30 mins from Atlanta'---

I don't believe you can find this in metro Atlanta, perhaps something like this is available in a small town ---hours away from Atlanta.

No offense, but you'll need to invest in burglar bars, a shotgun, and a large mean dog at that price. You're not going to find anything in that price range that is also a low-crime area with good schools. If I'm wrong, someone feel free to correct me, but that's a VERY low price for a home in Atlanta.

I think people have a huge misconception of housing prices in Atlanta.

I would spend some time searching online to get a flavor for what you can find within certain distances of the City of Atlanta, and then maybe talk to a real estate agent or two in the narrowed down areas of interest (giving them much more specific information) to see what they might be able to find for you.

FWIW, I did a quick search on a single real estate web site for properties $70,000 or less in Mableton (a NW suburb not far outside the city), and got 32 hits for single-family residential, so what you're looking for might be out there. It may take some digging and questions to determine if the houses are in a safe area, but you should be able to ask here and get some farily good opinions.

Good luck!
