My son, who works in downtown, is interested in buying a 1 bedroom condo at Talley Street Lofts. What do you think of this location and about how much would taxes be on a 130,000 dollar property? Thank you.

The City of Decatur doesn't have a website for looking up the city taxes for a specific property. You can search in Dekalb Co. but it will only tell you how much you would owe for county taxes.

When we were househunting, I would just call the City of Decatur tax office and they would look up how much the current owner paid and tell me over the phone.

There used to be a 'tax calculator' where you could compare City vs. County taxes for a specific amount, but not only was it outdated (2008) I found it to sometimes be inaccurate.

Talley Street lofts is great, and that area is (eventually) slated for more development with condos/apts/retail, so ... if this economy would ever turn around, I would think it would be a good investment. He'd also be right next to the Avondale MARTA, so he could use it to commute to downtown.

I don't know exactly what his taxes would be. Extrapolating on what I pay per year, I would make a wild guess that he might pay somewhere in the neighborhood of $2000 for county plus City of Decatur together. Again, that's just a guesstimate. I'd call the folks down at the city for a more accurate number.

I always thought that was a weird area to put a loft but I bet they are gorgeous inside. Seems like they put condos up anywhere these days. It's a great location since he works dowtonwn. He never has to get on the interstate to get to work.
