Our January bill with GA Power was $190 (the highest ever). That was after the really cold weather snap. Our home is 1950 sf, built in 1972 with poor insulation. We have a heat pump and a wood stove. At night, after the wood stove goes out, the heat pump runs all night, even though we keep the thermostat on 65. I am also home all day, every day with our kids, so that runs up the bill.

Sometimes our bill is as low as $70 in the spring/ fall when the A/C or heat is not on so much.

We had it installed in the house we built in NJ 10 years ago. It paid off for us, but utility bills up there were much higher than anything we've ever had since we moved south. Some of our neighbors had major issues with their geothermal systems, but I'd have to assume they have made advances in the technology since we bought it.

Our electric bill was $60, but our gas bill was $340. I nearly burst into tears when I saw the gas bill. And our house is about 2400 sq ft.

My gas bill was almost $200. Tell you what if I get another bill like that I'm going hunting for a pesky little groundhog. I do believe he'd make lovely burgers. Six more weeks of winter...
