Government should lower the barriers to job creation and should institute fiscal policies that will help the private sector grow, but no...no one who understands economics or political science could legitimately think that creating jobs is a function of government.

I don't think they're talking about people being direct employees of the government. They're talking about the demand that government spending creates which results in job creation.

And Republicans do believe in this sort of job creation. How many jobs did Halliburton create after 21 billion dollars in defense contracts?

This type of idiocy reminds of the knee jerk reaction to the Octo-Mom story.

Remember how lawmakers suddenly felt they had to ban the implantation of more than 2 embryos in GA fertility patients? Never mind that this would then require many patients to pony up another $20k or so for a 2nd round of treatment when in fact, implanting 3 the first time would have worked. Seriously how many women in GA are getting 8 implanted at once? The risk that GA would have its very own Octo-Mom is nill.

Yet lawmakers wanted to pass a law that seriously meddles in doctor-patient relationships. What would these lawmakers say to a woman who could not afford a 2nd round of government limited 2 embryo implantation? (and this woman is therefore going to be prevented from having any biological children)

It makes me sick how just because one woman and her doctor failed to follow the gynecological guidelines that are already in place, some of our lawmakers were willing to punish all women in GA. Nuts... there is NO real leadership in the state - just a bunch of reactionary good ole boys.

The prior post was correct - this seems to prohibit GA from implanting prisoners with any kind of chip, since I'm sure most of them would say it's "against their will".

Unintended consequences ... our lawmakers sure are blind to them!

It is not the government's job to spend billions of dollars in candy store type wasteful spending in the name of "jobs" and the Republicans do not support that kind of idiocy. How many Republicans voted for the bloated and wasteful $800+ billion dollar bill a year ago....not many. Had there been more spending on real infrastructure and more tax cuts for small business, then it might have gotten some support. Instead the President and his minions talk about raising taxes on small business owners through increased marginal rates.

It was a payoff to Democrat constituencies and most of the money was wasted in social spending. Less than $50 billion was appropriated for actual and useful infrastructure spending to help create temporary jobs, and most of that hasn't even been spent yet.

Yes, you are correct. The Republicans do not support wasteful spending on infrastructure...just wasteful spending on unnecessary wars in order to give payoffs to Republican constituencies (i.e. Halliburton). If you're going to exonerate one party..at least make sure their hands are clean.

We're obviously just having a disagreement on the semantics of the popular phrasing of 'jobs creation' at a legislative level. What you've stated here is sensible and something I can't argue with. I humbly withdraw my snarkitude.

I'll still argue, however, that the microchip legislation is just wingnuts catering to the 'Obamacare' paranoia.
