but in all seriousness, 90% are just careless. some are just too stupid to know they aren't supposed to be there (failure of our drivers ed and examination process). so the people like you, who do it on purpose account for 1% of all hoggers. failure to use mirrors contribute to that. they just don't see you.

talk to state patrol how often they get stuck behind somebody who isnt looking in the back.. and it goes on for miles. and guess what, can't legally do anything about it. frustration eh

I didn't say that I did that, I'm just saying it's a possibility that is what's happening in your situation. Thankfully where I live people seldom honk horns as it is considered rude (it may even get you a visit to the ER).

What makes me mad is when I'm in the left lane doing 75 and passing someone doing 55 (like it's meant for), and I still have people riding my bumper because they think I'm supposed to be going 90.

No need to encourage excessive speeding. Many on this board have already said they speed in excess of 80mph and we all see people everyday going 90+. Seems people are complaining because some are following the speed limit. Going 60-70 is fine, if one is going 40 then we have an issue. I can't believe people would find it ok to honk or flash their lights at someone who is going the speed limit.

There is no such thing as a "fast lane". As mentioned above in a previous post, the left lane is for passing a slower vehicle only - not to stay in and drive at whatever speed you feel like driving.
So both of you claim that Georgia law already designates the left lane as a passing-only lane. Not so, according to this website: State "keep right" laws

The current speeding statute, see subsection 2;

40-6-184. Impeding traffic flow; minimum speed in left-hand lanes

(a)(1) No person shall drive a motor vehicle at such a slow speed as to impede the normal and reasonable movement of traffic, except when reduced speed is necessary for safe operation.

(2) On roads, streets, or highways with two or more lanes allowing for movement in the same direction, no person shall continue to operate a motor vehicle in the most left-hand lane at less than the maximum lawful speed limit once such person knows or should reasonably know that he is being overtaken in such lane from the rear by a motor vehicle traveling at a higher rate of speed, except when such motor vehicle is preparing for a left turn.

(b) Whenever the commissioner of public safety or the commissioner of transportation or local authorities determine on the basis of any engineering and traffic investigation that slow speeds on any part of a road under their respective jurisdictions impede the normal and reasonable movement of traffic, such commissioners jointly, or such local authorities, may determine and declare a minimum speed limit below which no person shall drive a vehicle except when necessary for safe operation, and that limit shall be effective when posted upon fixed or variable signs.

Many of those in the "fast" lane doing 40 are talking on a cell. Happens every day.

Personally I speed anyway and so does every Atlantan, so moving the slow pokes over is helping me.
What about areas where you're on a freeway and there's an exit on the left (like southbound I-285 to eastbound I-20)?

I have issued a 40-6-184 ticket along with a 40-6-241 ticket when that happens;

40-6-241. Driver to exercise due care; proper use of radios and mobile telephones allowed

A driver shall exercise due care in operating a motor vehicle on the highways of this state and shall not engage in any actions which shall distract such driver from the safe operation of such vehicle, provided that the proper use of a radio, citizens band radio, or mobile telephone shall not be a violation of this Code section.

It would be reasonable to expect a driver to slow down when on an exit lane or exit ramp.

you dont know my situation. People don't hog in front me of, they hog in front of other people that are ahead of me. I am not moses to move a column of cars

Why does it make you mad? You pass, and then you move. The fact you are doing 75 is completely irrelevant. You could be doing 175 and the same rules will still apply. You move over. I do it all the time (i now hang my head in shame, for people actually pass me now and then)

Its not meant for anything. Limits are set by population. Hence urban = lower limit on the same engineered road. DOT is quite an interesting phenomena.
