I visited this site quite a bit in 2008 before moving to Atlanta and read all these stories about how Atlanta is unsafe and a difficult city to live in. I wanted to stop by again and say that I love Atlanta, having lived here a year and a half. It's a great city with so much to do, great restaurants, and very interesting people. I've made many friends from diverse backgrounds and I really love it here.

Good luck to all of you moving here. I'm sure you'll enjoy it if you have an open mind and are willing to try new things!

I think the key to being happy in Atlanta is knowing what to expect before you move, and to not compare Atlanta to "place X" or expect it to conform to the same criteria as "place X."

Many of the posters in this forum complain that they live here but it's not as urban as NY or Chicago, while others complain it's too built up and lacks the old "southern charm." So as one who has seen Atlanta in various stages from 1982 until today, please investigate the social scene, the housing market, the schools, the transportation, and anything else that's important to you BEFORE you move.

Ditto what Neil0211 says.

CVBrooks thanks for giving my hometown the rightful feedback she deserves It's so natural for human beings to just pick on the negative things and not give praise when praise is due.

Atlanta isn't for everyone (i.e. some friends who once lived in Atlanta prefer to reside closer to Macon, Athens, etc, due to size)... but it apparently works well enough for the growing population that "tricks" the Darlington Apartments on Peachtree Rd from constantly increasing it's population count on their digital marquee
