This is why I love listening to the Friday Work Release Program: they're playing "Eastbound And Down" by Jerry Reed right now.

They have a few other regular songs on there, including, but not limited to:

"Party Hard" - Andrew W.K. (played at 5:00PM every Friday)
"BEER!!!" - Psychostick ("Let's go drink some BEEER!!!")
"Black Betty" - Spiderbait (the middle part of their version ROCKS!)

They also have a feature called the "Rage Injection," which is when they play two Rage Against The Machine songs back to back.

Other songs they seem to play somewhat regularly include, but are not limited to:

"Institutionalized" - Suicidal Tendencies
"Mother" - Danzig
"Bodies" - Drowning Pool
"Rise Up" - Cypress Hill (feat. Tom Morello)

Regardless of what you think of their music format, I like listening to Project 9-6-1 because it's fun!

My main complaint with 96.1 is that they play 90s grunge way too much. Seriously, smells like teen spirit? It came out 20 years ago.

I listen to 99x now, which has a better selection of music for me.

But the grunge explosion is exactly why stations like 99X and Project 9-6-1 exist in the first place.

I think Project 9-6-1 has a pretty good balance between the new, the old and the really old. It's slanted slightly older during the day, probably because people tune in when they're at work, and then during the evenings and overnights, it's slanted newer.

99x is my favorite, but I'd like to hear more indie rock (MGMT in particular!)

Unfortunately, with the frequency change, I can no longer receive 99X where I live. When 99X was at 99.7 FM, it and Project 9-6-1 were my two favorite stations.

I love the way they play "Eastbound And Down" at quitting time.
It feels like the start of a good old down home southern celebration.
