I'm graduating college and moving to Atlanta and am wondering where in or around the Atlanta there is a bigger proportion of young professionals. I hear there are more in Buckhead and Midtown than anywhere else, but they seem a bit pricey for recent graduates. Recommendations anyone??

Check around at renting in Virginia-Highlands....there are a lot of older apartments and houses with rental space there and it's a nice area close to town with a lot of restaurants and bars. Also, it is not to far a walk to Piedmont Park. I lived in the area shortly after graduating and loved it.

Doesnt really matter where you live as long as you are safe because professionals are located everywhere here

Also try the Vinings/Cumberland area and the Perimeter Center/Sandy Springs/Dunwoody area. Lots of single professionals (especially Vinings!) and safe. The areas are also more affordable but still "close-in."

Definitely buckhead, midtown, or virginia highlands. There are some cheaper places in all of those neighborhoods, especially buckhead. Don't be intimidated by what apartment complexes have listed as their prices. Its always negotiable, and there is much more supply than demand right now, which plays into your favor.

And there's always the important question, "Where will you be working?"

Try to live close to your job so you're not always stuck in traffic.
Virginia Highlands, Little Five Points, Midtown, Buckhead, Candler Park and East Atlanta Village are all options and all quite different. It depends if you want a walkable neighborhood, if you want a funky/ecclectic neighborhood, price range, transit access, etc.

Where you work will play a major role in where you live. If you are apartment hunting, then you will have more flexibility in terms of getting a decent commute. From personal experience, it is better to have a short commute to work than a short ride to activities. For example, Vinings may not be a wise choice if you work in Duluth or vice versa.

With that being said, all of the places that have been mentioned are good for young professionals.

Live close to work. If you are moving here without a job, pick a centralized area with easy highway access such as Perimeter.

Buckhead, and to some extend Midtown, has very good access to highways as well. I live in the southern part of buckhead, in an area called Lindbergh, which is right around the intersection of 85, 75, and 400. I would try to stay away from perimeter, as the traffic is worse the farther you get from the city. Once you're inside the perimeter (ITP, meaning inside I-285), the traffic isnt quite as bad.
