After reading the posts in the forum, I feel like it's so easy to accidentally stumble into a bad neighborhood. I'm considering moving to Atlanta for a Job in Emory. Is it that hard to find a reasonably priced ($1000) apt in a safe neighborhood, within 20-30 minutes drive to Emory?

Sure you can, off course it is going to depend on what size apartment you are looking for but for $1000 you could definitely find a one bedroom apartment in a good neighborhood. A two bedroom would be a little harder but still doable.

There are several upscale apartment properties near Briarcliff Rd/N Druid Hills/LaVista Rd/Clairmont --10 minutes from Emory.

I would also imagine that there are a number of nice apartments in your specified price range in Virginia Highlands/Midtown --also close to Emory. Very desirable neighborhoods.

Also, if you have any interest in renting a small house--there are occasionally some renovated 50's/60's homes in this price range and in the Emory/NLake area.
