I just got back to New Jersey from a six-day vacation in Georgia. We did the first two days in Savannah and the last four in Atlanta. What a great state with such great people. We had such a fantastic time that I wanted to stop by here and say thank you.

While in Savannah we did River Street, the boat ride up and down the Savannah River, Tybee Island, Forsyth Park, Mrs. Wilkes Boarding House and Fort Pulaski.

In Atlanta we did the Aquarium, CNN Center, Coca Cola, Centenial Olympic Park, the Botanical Garden, the Zoo, Stone Mountain, Atlanta Motor Speedway, and the Home Opener of the Braves vs. the Cubs.

We went to Atlanta because I found a great deal on airfare, but we were blown away by your beautiful state. We could have used another week there.

Anyway, just wanted to say thanks.

This is why I think Lonely Planet or Let's Go should make an Atlanta+Savannah Travel Guide Book!

Glad you had such a good time. I'm originally from NJ as well and will have to say that Georgia is definitely a beautiful state. There is a lot of diversity throughout the state. Next time you come down you'll have to head up to the mountains. Lots of beautiful scenery up there and if you like hiking or camping there are a lot of cool places to go.

You're totally awesome for having a good time here! Seriously. Next time, when you're planning a trip here...come to this forum and ask us locals for recommendations. You've done the touristy stuff. Next time, come do Atlanta/Savannah local style (ie, as if you lived here). Gives you a whole other perspective that's, in my opinion, even better than the touristy version (though glad you enjoyed that!). Just think...getting a steak where locals know to get a good steak, taking in local theater, going to a street festival, shopping at little unique boutiques....going on a trail hike, staying at the Smith House in Dahlonega (c'mon, everybody has to do that at some point...just to experience family style dining with southern food).

Glad you had a good time and please come back.

I think that making a visit to both cities gives you some idea of the remarkable diversity of this state. So glad you had a great time...come back soon, y'hear?
