We are relocating to Atlanta in the next 30 days. We will have corporate housing for 6 months and will be putting our Charlotte house on the market.

We are seeking advice on areas to live based on the following information:

~House budget - 450k and below
~Single family residence - suburban lifestyle
~Primary commute will be into downtown Atlanta (prefer 45 min or less commute on a good day - hoping this is possible!!)
~Twin boys - 18 months old (will also be searching for a full-time Nanny)
~Top rated public elementary school preferred vs private
~Neighborhood with active swim/tennis and relatively close to shopping/restaurants

Thanks for any insight. We are on the fast train so things are very overwhelming right now. Hate to leave Charlotte (we love it) - but a great opportunity has presented itself and we have made the family decision to take the leap.

I was thinking the same thing, the Sandy Springs/Dunwoody area sounds like it would fit at least most of your needs. You should definitely be able to find a decent house in your price range. I don't commute to downtown but I do go from Sandy Springs to Buckhead and vice versa and it takes me about 20 minute during rush hour so I think going to downtown would probably be about 40 - 45 minutes. Also, in Sandy Springs/Dunwoody there are several train stations where you can catch the Marta train and ride that to downtown if you would prefer to do mass transit. Sandy Springs/Dunwoody border each other and there is a section called the Perimeter area that has fantastic shopping and quite a few restaurants plus you also have the Roswell Rd area in Sandy Springs that has a lot of shops and restaurants. I also know that there are several tennis and swim facilities between the two cities. I can't tell you anything about schools since I have no kids in school.

You might want to check this Sandy Springs/Perimeter Guide Book out as it might give you a little more info (I also know that they have this in a print copy but you would probably need to contact the chamber of commerce to have one sent to you):
