Hi all,

I'm in the market for a townhouse/condo in Atlanta. My sister is a resident at emory hospital, and I'd like to get her a place to live during her residency. Her safety and comfort are the most important factors for me.

The problem I a face is that I live in California - so I thought I'd come here for help.

Budget - ~150K
Employment Status - Emory Hospital (near the hospital is key)
No Children
Mix of Suburban or Urban lifestyle is ideal
Not concerned with access to public transit
Preferable demographics of desired neighborhood - Medical residents/doctors

If anyone has ideas, that would be great. I am not even sure what country to start looking in!!

Thanks in advance

If you want to be around residents/doctors you should be in the Decatur area - that's where most of the Emory staff/student population resides. Look around the Clairmont/Druid Hills and downtown Decatur is cool.

If you want more of a "scene" - midtown/Buckhead has a glut of condos - you can probably easily get one in your price range.

A few things:

1. You can definitely find a 1 or possibly even 2 bedroom condo for $150k or less within a 15 minute commute to Emory -- primarily in North Decatur but there are options all around the Emory area. Feel free to DM me if you would like professional assistance (I'm a native of the Emory area and a Realtor).

For a quick commute, you'll want to look in certain parts of DeKalb or Fulton county -- the closest zip codes surrounding Emory are 30033, 30030, 30307, 30306, 30329, and 30345.

2. No agent is going to be able to show you "condos with no kids" -- it's a federal fair housing law violation (familial status). Your sister is certainly welcome to live anywhere she wants, but she will need to check out whether or not there are children in the building herself. An agent directing you to buildings with no children (even if any exist) would be considered guilty of "steering" and could lose their license and be subject to a very steep fine, so please don't include that on your list of requirements when you go to work with an agent.

3. The best way to find out where other residents live would probably be to inquire at the hospital.

Walk around downtown and go by the complexes and someone will probably throw a deed at you.
