is it true that you cannot have a car and apply for food stamps.

I heard that if you own a vehicle some of their guidelines exclude individuals who own a new car

Can anyone shed some light on this

I would hope you would be required to sell a new car before leeching from taxpayers. Then again, most of the women using food stamps at the Kroger on Ponce drive nicer cars than I do.

THe people on welfare/food stamps are always in line at the store yapping on expensive blackberry/bluetooth cell phones, and buying pet food and booze with cash, . . . AND drive away in their expensive car with tricked out rims.
I recall hearing of a time when the poor would work hard to pull themselves up, . . . rather than whooping it up, and acting stupid, and NOT even trying to get off welfare and become productive.
Why work when they can keep getting crap for free, (and keep complaining)

Here is a link to the GA benefits info:

I seriously doubt EVERYONE on food stamps has a blackberry and drives an expensive car.

I don't see why you would be excluded for having a car though. How would giving up your means of transportation enable anyone to get off food stamps by getting a job?

What is possible is that if you have a car payment, that monthly bill won't be used to lower your income.

No, what you encountered were people gaming the system aka sheisters. The real people on food stamps that are poor don't live like that because the are poor. Spend a week in the hood or out in the country at some trailer park and see if your indignation still rings true.

What's so surprising? That people that work their tails off get upset that they end up buying food for people who can afford cars? It's not surprising.

You can own a car but it can't be a newer model, it is considered an asset, Info everyone who is on food stamps are not non- working welfare queens some people work and get help. I work and don't get any help, we are one income family, but my daughter works and gets help now if she could get her child support she would not get food stamps but can't cause he can't get a job in this economy not his fault not her fault. I don't understand people attitude towards the less advantage. To op sorry about your recent disability, hope you will be able to get some services.

Disability is the second biggest scam after food stamps. I am amazed at some of the people who qualify for disability. Most of them have nothing wrong with them besides morbid obesity. Others claim depression or "fibromyalgia" usually caused by smoking two packs a day for thirty years. There are too many lawyers who are willing to get people on disability if they are too lazy to work.
