how popular it is to "enter auto", "take auto", etc.
Wow! Are there any precautions I need to take?
I guess I should alarm my vehicle?
Car theft is not popular down here where I live.
However, when I grew up in Queens, NY, our car was stolen about 3
times. But that was over 25 years ago. I don't remember much.
It seems like the Charlotte area (NC) and Metro Atlanta are
"hot spots" for vehicle break-ins and theft. Am I right?
What do you do to protect your car? I guess I should take the DVD
players out, GPS, etc. when I move there.

Dont worry about it, that what insurance is for

Unless you are driving an expensive car and leaving it in random places you probably do not have nothing to worry about

Yeah, unfortunately people are STILL leaving all sorts of valuables out in plain view.

In all my years here AJ, I have never had anything happen to my vehicle - but I never, ever leave anything out in view. It's just more common sense type stuff, don't be alarmed.

Ditto on that. I made the mistake once...stopped for a 1/2 hour meeting early one morning with a contractor. It was in a gated condo community in Buckhead. I left my laptop in the back seat. When I came out, window smashed, laptop gone. Five other cars had been done at the same time.
I'll never make that mistake again.

We had a rash of things stolen from cars last year in my neighborhood, but it was generally from unlocked cars. It was the one time I forgot to lock my car and was stupid enough to leave my ipod in the car. In this case, everybody in the neighborhood pretty much knows who did it, but no one can prove it. Just lock your car and don't leave valuable things in the car, especially in an apartment complex.

General rule I try to go by: Don't leave anything in plain view.

My brother's car got broken into for food one time. Mine has gotten broken into and nothing was even taken (had no valuables). All you can do is minimize your risk by not leaving anything in there.
