And if I do recall, Zone one is like only a stone's throw away from Vinings/Cumberland. Its wild b/c when youre goin northward on Marietta Blvd NW, its not hard to tell youre in the hood, or at least very close to it. Cross the hooch, and those gray skies clear....the rain stops....the air gets cleaner, and the houses start to look way nicer. Cobb!.....but then you run into traffic on 285 and all the smog and bad drivers that Cobb is notorious for lol (no offense)

People just tend to generalize Atl too much based on racial predispositions. Most of East, West, and South Metro Atl are majorily black. Not hood, per say, b/c some of the nicer areas of Atl are on these aforementioned sides.....communities like Stone Mtn., Lithonia, East Atlanta, Fayetteville, Palmetto, Chattahoochee Hills Plantation, The Tri-Cities, Candler Park, Lithia Springs, parts of Cobb, Butner Rd, etc.

And true, the South metro has its more rough parts. But please dont think that the Northside is spotless like virgin...lol

There are plenty of pockets of that "hood" element ALL over the Northside, like Windy Hill, Milford Mill, Lemmon St in Marietta, Franklin Rd, Terrell Mill, Parts of South Gwinett, etc.

Anyway, Atl is not just the most hood city on earth, either. Those who hold such a view really dont travel much across America. You want a hood city? Try Miami Dade Co. in South Fla. Thats the REAL bricks. Most of Atl is just suburbs. Not sayin that crime doesnt happen, b/c crime is colorblind and ignores economic lines.......but compared to alot of cities Atl is for the most part tame. Really just a bunch of transplants from Cali, NY, and NJ, teens mainly, that have a need to fit in or try to hard to "southern".....lol smh
Stone Mountian not sweet bruh we have two the biggest gangs in the metro area. Black Mobb and Da Fam be at war for a long time. Black Mobb was actuallt the first gang in the metro to make the news. DaSIC900blk-RedanRD

Things are neighborhood by neighborhood. There's no consistent large area in Atlanta.

By the way, Harlem isn't "the hood" nowadays. Much of harlem is just another nice residential area in Manhatten.

Where is Redan located? After reading this post I plan on avoiding it like the plague. At some point Stone Mountain was a upscale area in the not to distant past. I always heard about Smoke Rise being a place where well-to-do physicians lived. What demographic moved in and changed all that?

I thought Smoke Rise was still very upscale. There are some gorgeous homes out there.

I live in Smoke Rise. It's still very nice. I think the decline that happened to Stone Mountain hasn't affected our neighborhood because we are geographically separated from Stone Mountain by Hwy 78. We were never really part of Stone Mountain; it just happened that we had that postal designation. About a year ago we actually got our own postal designation: Smoke Rise, GA 30087.

Bankhead Courts and Hollywood Courts don't exist anymore (as you indicated). Bolton Rd is really nice East of James Jackson Parkway and even ok West of James Jackson Parkway. With the death of the projects and the new Westside Park and the amount of available land: NW Atlanta is going to get nice, really fast and there's some big money already moving in there. Some may remember that not all of Buckhead used to be all it is right now. Gentrification keeps spreading.

The closest thing I can come up with is the difference between the 'hoods' in North Atlanta and South Atlanta. North Atlanta has more gang banging and the South has more drug dealing, generally speaking, the South is worse, because the poverty rate is so high. These are really the only two major 'hood' areas, but they are like two completely different worlds.

Atlanta is a teeming hive of scum and villainy. It's not South Central, L.A., but you will see spectacular crime stories occuring throughout the metro area. Nice neighborhoods are not immune because hoodlums have cars. If you move too far out, you get into banjo people and deliverance stuff. Atlanta has downtown African-American urban crime, suburban Hispanic/Asian gang crime, and in outlying areas "Deliverance" redneck/hillbilly crime. If you move to Atlanta, just use basic common sense - alarms, locks, a dog, don't flash cash, don't jog in remote wooded areas, don't gas up in sketchy areas, use the ATM during the day, don't leave anything of any value visible in your car, etc.

However, Atlanta does have a lot to offer, a lot of amenities, sports teams, shopping, and a lot of excitement. We miss Ikea. We miss the Varsity. We miss Bass Pro Shop. We miss the availability of the Aquarium, the High Museum, and the World of Coke. We miss NASCAR races. We even miss seeing the rappers and athletes in Bentleys and Aston-Martins. We would move back to Atlanta in a heartbeat.

LOL! Such drama! You make Atlanta sound like the beginning of a Batman comic.

I usually laugh at people who say "they hate everyone" as it seems a bit unlikely, but you sir do indeed seem to hate everybody. I count at least a dozen stereotypes in the above. SMH
