Ok, so I am a young 21 yr. old female currently living in New Mexico. I plan to move to the ATL area within the next year or two with my girlfriend and 1 year old son. I will try to be as specific as I can with what we (mainly she) has come up with:

-Outside of the city is a must.
-Not too worried about the commute, since I will beworking at Dobbins base.
-Majority URBAN like area, I want my son to be well rounded with his African American history outside of the month of February. That’s just us. A Daycare that teaches Spanish and French is a must. We are teaching him both. see, not average huh?
-Renting an apt. would be smart first until we get a feel of the area then get a house built.
-Money isn’t much of an issue between us, just an place to live that other educated but yet, laidback and fun people wouldn’t mind adding another family to the area. Regardless of sexual oreientation.
-I'm also into music producing so an area that doesn’t mindmusic being blasted a little above normal (nothing disturbing to a sleeping baby since I too will have one in my home).

I believe that is it. anything is helpful though.

You aren't going to find any urbanity outside of the city and the urbanity in the city isn't that much. Atlanta and the metro area is very suburban.

If by "urban" you mean lots of black people, there are lots of black people in the suburbs, mostly south burbs and to the northeast in places like Stone Mountain and Lithonia.

Look at Smyrna. Inner-ring suburb, close to Dobbins, good ethnic diversity:

White alone - 24,673 (48.5%)
Black alone - 15,584 (30.6%)
Hispanic - 6,205 (12.2%)
Asian alone - 3,703 (7.3%)
Two or more races - 579 (1.1%)
Other race alone - 131 (0.3%)
American Indian alone - 7 (0.01%)

Try using this Census Map http://projects.nytimes.com/census/2010/map as it breaks down demographics by areas. Use it as you would Google, by putting the address in. I would suggest Marietta, GA, you should be able to find what you're looking for in the same area as your jobs. But avoid some areas near Dobbins in Marietta, those areas have taken a hit these last number of years.

Yeah, I would look at some areas in Smyrna which is next door to Dobbins. Although, if you're going to be music producing I would recommend renting a house rather than an apartment just as a courtesy to neighbors.
