Hey all,

I'm really excited to move to ATL. I need some help deciding on an area, apartments and condos, local info, and advice and tips about anything that you may think I need to know.

Here is some information about me and what I'm looking for:

--I am 22 years old.
--Moving from Athens, GA (UGA)
--Safe neighborhood with pubs, nice restaurants, shopping, etc.
--Monthly rent price around $1000.
--Looking for Apts or condos.
--Currently in graduate school at Georgia State University.
--I am single. Have no children or pets.
--Easy access to public transit not important at all.
--I want to live in an area or community with a young residents about my age.

I am single so I would like to meet people and live in a nice friendly atmosphere. I am partial to the Virginia Highland area because is near a college campus (Emory) and I've heard it has nice restaurants, pubs, shopping, etc. and a younger population. I've heard Buckhead is more of an upscale single family scene and I really don't see myself in the downtown area.

I'm looking for a nice apartment or condo to rent. I've heard Gables around the ATL area is really nice so if you can use that as a template for what I'm looking for. Not strictly that nice but generally that type of residence.

Thank you all in advance for all of your tips and advice!!! I really need it.

Decatur might be a good match. Lots of shops, restaurants and easy access to MARTA--for commuting to GSU as well as being close to VAHi/Emory and much more.

ETA: MARTA is sometimes the easiest way to get to/from GSU. Other posters can give opinions on that. A good option to have at any rate.
