Ok I am trying to comply with your requests. Our main issue is where should we look for a place to live.

1. Our budget for housing is $200,000 maximum and hope to purchase.
2. We would prefer an end unit Townhouse.
3. We are retired.
4. Our kids are grown, although one is still with us.
5. Prefer a mix of urban/suburban life style.
6. Public transit is not really important. While airport access is also not important, we don’t mind airport noise.
7. I am white and my wife is black. We have spent most of our married life in Los Angeles and would prefer to live in a racially mixed neighborhood.
8. We are both fairly well educated, I have a Master’s degree and my wife has a Baccalaureate degree.
9. We would prefer to live within a reasonable drive to a Kaiser Health Facility.
10. I have never lived east of Colorado, so this will be a new experience for me.
11. My wife has lived in South Florida before, and has friends and family in Connecticut, New York City, Baltimore, Miami and Atlanta.
12. We both love and are interested in the arts.

Any thoughts any of you might have about where we might look for a likely places to live will be deeply appreciated. Thank you.

The northeast part of the city you should check out, near lavista road and there are plenty of places around Emory around 200k that is a quiet safe area you might like since you're retired. You can probably find something built in the 70's or 80's.

Kaiser doesn't have a big a presence here as what you're used to in CA, but they're rapidly expanding. They've got clinics going in all over the metro that offer primary care, and they're expanding several of their facilities to offer extensive specialist services now.

Id recommend the Camp Creek area.Close to everything but just far enough away also. Reasonable new housing. Also very tolerant area for most lifestyles. You wont find as many different cultures but you will find that people pretty much dont care about your personal life.

Its close to the airport, shopping and not too far from downtown Atlanta.

Camp Creek MarketPlace

I would also recommend the Rex area of Clayton County near the Henry County boarder. You have no kids so you will not be affected by the school system rebuilding itself. There is also a Kaiser within 5 miles of their also.

Seriously Id try the Buckhead area or perhaps Alpharetta or Roswell. Theyre all outstanding communities with great school districts and a high number of transplants that might relate to your own experiences.

$200,000 is their max and they are retired with grown kids. Those area while nice are not cheap.Finding something under 200k will be extremely difficult.

How about Tucker or The City of Decatur? The City of Decatur is quite expensive but since you are looking for a townhome you may be able to find something here given the economy. Tucker is a bit cheaper and I think you would fit in well there. Lilburn is also a good area, just don't make the mistake of moving to Norcross which is right next to it. Since you are an interracial couple, you'd likely enjoy an interracial church such as Victory World Church if you are into church. Stay away from Clayton County though...too much crime. If you don't mind a long traffic laden commute to anywhere you go, Snellville, Buford and Suwanne may be a good fit. Dunwoody is really nice as well. Marietta is also nice but again, keep traffic in mind. Of course traffic is an issue here in Atlanta period but some areas are worse than others.
