Rcsteiner, sorry, but you're living in HOPEland, not REALITYland! It is very unfortunate, but Cobb County (sans Vinings & East Cobb) have taken a dive economically. The multitudes of '60's houses that are now rental, rundown or full of illegals, are not bringing a good standard of living to south Cobb County.
There IS a difference. If you go ride through Decatur '60's home,.. you get a feel for COMMUNITY- & it reflects in house values that is visable just looking @ remodeling of homes, that further reflects into surrounding villagey areas where these people shop, eat, ride bikes, go to museums, art galleries & parks! It's the same in older neighborhoods throughout East Atlanta, Roswell , Chamblee, West Atlanta, Sandy Springs, Dunwoody, etc.
Do you understand there are no BUSINESSES willing to come into Smyrna? Have you seen ANY architecture that remotely resembles any type of DWELL housing, 'green' building or newer 'denser' loft living, that IS the way of the future? Do you understand that there are NO bike lanes or bike racks in Smyrna? Do you understand the 'community' gardens are meant to teach people about sustainable farming & ORGANIC gardening? Oh, NO, not Smyrnas! Smyrnas community garden is allowing man made CHEMICAL fertilizers! UNBELIEVABLE!!
Did you notice in the 6 years you have lived here, that NOT ONE DIME has been spent helping update & revitalize Cobb Parkway, South Cobb Drive & Atlanta Road (north of Windy Hill)??GDOT says South Cobb Drive"ain't even on the radar". Just watch- Gwinnett County will go for the GOLD! Once they get HOT lanes in place, they will be awarded 'light rail' funding. When this happens,... you can just kiss Cobb County GOODBYE forever!!
Ya think these backwards ways have ANYTHING to do w/ an absolutely OUT OF TOUCH mayor & council??? Ya THINK??

I enjoy reading these opinions,as I am moving to the Atlanta area also. As empty nester and semi retired couple, which of these areas offer upmarket places to gather, shop and have the best access to Atlanta theatre? Thanks

It's pretty funny to read posts from 7 years ago. Smyrna has come a long way.

The City of Marietta itself is simply charming: Historic districts, old time courthouse square, community events and farmers markets, even a decent (for the most part) school system. I feel that the City of Marietta has a serious charm quota far above Smyrna. Jonquils only bloom in early spring anyway, lol.

Smyrna made a huge, huge blunder with that dumb "Market Village" b.s. downtown. They tried to focus on making one nice-looking street, but it just looks fake and overdone. And as soon as you walk out of that one street, it's nothing but parking lots everywhere.

Would have been much better to just build a bunch of retail lining Atlanta Rd, with the parking lots behind.
