Hello, I was hoping to get a general idea on how much it costs to get an in ground pool in the northern suburbs. Curious the difference between a gunite pool and a liner pool costs. We are not looking for anything fancy, just your average pool and decking. If anyone has put in a pool recently and would be willing to share their costs, I would really appreciate it!
Thanks in advance!!

A basic in-ground pool will be around $50K. Add in some bells and whistles and you could easily top $100K. And don't even ask about a grotto unless you have ~$250K to spend.

These guys are good if you want more detailed information for your project. >

Money well spent IMO! The years of enjoyment and memories are priceless.

I'm not a pool expert.

But I can say I've never seen one that I would call quality that has a liner.

At a former house, we had a liner pool. Filled it in. Have a gunite pool now. I'd fill it in but my wife really likes it the two times a year we use it. It's a pain and money pit.

Once the kids are gone, it's hard to justify the upkeep. I sold my SSI house to my daughter. If her kids aren't in school, they're in the pool.
These days we just sponge off my cousin and other friends that have them.

We were fortunate enough to have a community pool which is where our kids wanted to go for pool time. I'm sure that's why they didn't use the pool we had. Now, the kids are pretty much gone, so they aren't around to use the pool any longer.

With the South having a solid five, five and a half months of very warm weather a year, I've always wondered why more people in Atlanta don't have homes with pools. I mean, when I lived in California, they were everywhere! Even if it wasn't the fanciest, or most expensive; even people in middle class neighborhoods had pools. Some say the upkeep is a money pit, or they only use it 2 or 3 times during the summer season. HOW???! I absolutely LOVE to swim, and I'd be in that thing every other day and the weekends unless I was sick or out of town!!

Having a pool under a deciduous forest canopy can be an arduous proposition.

I've never understood why pools are so geared toward kids. I think I like pools more as an adult than I did as a kid! Go out and use it....you might like it.
