I'm planning on heading down to Atlanta this weekend coming from Columbia, SC. I'm planning on leaving around 8ish and was wondering how bad the traffic will be on Highway 20. Is it bad enough that I need to go up to Greenville and head down 85 or is the Interstate fine with heavy traffic once you get off? Thanks.

You'll be fine. I20 is 3 thru lanes each direction going through Augusta, you may encounter some slight backup at a few of the exit ramps, but nothing that is going to drastically slow down traffic and add anything more than a few mins. to your commute. The city has Master's week traffic fine tuned so that there are as few delays as possible. Just watch your speed, the limit is 55 going through Augusta, and I'm sure GA State Patrol and ARC Traffic Enforcement will be out in full force.

Traffic can get pretty heavy on the weekend but it's usually confined between the stateline mile marker 201 Riverwatch( exit 200 ) and Washington rd.( exit 199 ) both of the right lanes were blocked today from everyone trying to exit at the 199 Masters Patrons who could not wait patiently were trying to jump the line backing up traffic this goes on just about everyday of the Tournament just stay in the left lane and you'll be fine you could also take I-520 and go around though this would add 14 miles to your trip but may save you sometime. Why go all the way to Greenville from Columbia seems a little out of the way. follow US hwy 378 over to Washington, Ga then Ga hwy 44 down to I-20 in Greensboro, Ga and continue on to Atlanta though this is the scenic route you may enjoy the Carolina and Georgia countryside. p.s this was the pre-interstate route between Cola and Atl.
