The 160,000 square foot store located at the Village of Riverwatch would employ 150 people.

The average store size of a Costco: 133,000 square feet (smallest 70,000 sq. ft.; largest 160,000 sq. ft.)

Great news if true. In my opinion, Augusta is large enough to support one.

Does this mean that the VAR is still on? Is Bass Pro forcing the developer's hand by announcing that they'll be looking elsewhere in Augusta to build their store? Will the VAR end up being a power centre like Augusta Exchange or is it still going to be a lifestyle center?

Hopefully Whole Foods, Trader Joes, Chipotle, REI, Lucky Brand, Chessecake Factory, California Pizza Kitchen, Le Chateau, Bare Escentuals, Juicy Couture, Brooks Brothers, Brookstone, J. Crew, L'Occitane, Pottery Barn, etc will follow.

The representatives of MGHerring never did announced VAR was dead. Some people were assuming it may not happen. The VAR is supposed to be a lifestyle center unless they've made significant changes...

A recent quote from a article posted on October 23rd...

''Hillary Redwine, a spokeswoman for the Dallas-based MCHerring Group that owns the site, said plans for the property remain under development.''

"We expect to have an announcement on the project very soon," she said, declining to further elaborate.''
Bass Pro Shops still looking in area | The Augusta Chronicle

Reports of Costco coming to the Village at Riverwatch was announced four days later...
