I don't normally care about the new apartment complexes, but this is very good news. West Augusta is full of upscale apartments(Estates at Perimeter, Century Hills, Brigham Woods Century Glenn, etc) including one more under construction(The Gateway in Wheeler Town Park). South Augusta can use one in order to attract more younger professionals.

A 252 unit complex(Fort Gordon Place) is coming to 3032 Tobacco rd, and can hopefully spur further residential/commercial growth in the surrounding area. There's plenty of vacant land on Deans Bridge going towards Blythe, and Tobacco rd near the Fort Gordon entrance.

You've already claimed to ''live there'' before... I wonder why the numerous transplants I recommend the Estates at the Perimeter to agree it's 'upscale'. They obviously make a good living, and wouldn't pay high rents for nothing.

Are there any plans to clean up Gordon Highway between the airport and downtown? It's pretty unsightly. Savannah has an ordinance that forbids taxi / limo companies from driving visitors through the industrial part of town when coming from the airport. They're required to go around the interstates (for a flat rate). Does Augusta have similar?

Lol those are pretty extreme lengths to go to to basically lie about your city. Why not just accept it as it is instead of putting on a fake front? The world needs more honest people and less people only worried about making a buck.

Pharmacy opens in south Augusta A locally owned pharmacy has opened in south Augusta. Living Well Pharmacy is at 3736 Mike Padgett Highway, near Tobacco Road. Vic Johnson, a Columbia County native and graduate of the University of Georgia’s College of Pharmacy, will serve as chief operating officer and pharmacist in charge. The location was chosen so that Johnson and physicians at Southern Family Medical Center next door could offer complementing service.

Plans for a south Augusta apartment complex are still on the table, though a construction date has yet to be nailed down.

Site plans for Augusta Place Apartments that were submitted to the city in March would put a 252-unit apartment complex on 25 acres at 3731 Peach Orchard Road, near Tobacco Road.

“We’re still going forward with things,” said developer John Robison, the chief operating officer for Management Resources Development. “It just isn’t moving along as fast as we would like.”

Several city departments, including engineering, trees and landscaping, utilities and traffic, have rejected the plan for not meeting city codes or standards, said Augusta’s planning and development administrative manager Lois Schmidt, who added that it’s normal for proposed projects to need revisions in the beginning phases.

MRD Apartments, based out of East Lansing, Mich., has built multifamily, military and affordable housing developments across nine states, mostly in the South and Midwest.

Robison said the apartments’ rent will be set at market rates and Section 8 vouchers will not be accepted on the property.

The site on Peach Orchard Road was attractive, Robison said, because of the area’s booming industry and nuclear plants. Robison said MRD Apartments developments are three-story buildings with 36 units each. “Our intention on that property is to build them all at once,” he said. “If it goes real well, we might add on to that.”
