I am in shock right now... Augusta's retail has morphed over 24hrs into domething I don't recognize as a lifelong Augustan. Cabela's is really particular where they put there stores, virtually no footprint in the Southeast. That's why I was so upset when BPS left VAR because it's just such a good/unique location, Cabela's is even better for VAR. With the timing, it sure seems like a lot of people didn't want to get shown up with yesterday's announcement in Columbia County. LOL

agreed...i think this will definitely be the catalyst for more development. At first I was dissapointed in the BPS size but now it might make sense.Maybe the size of the stores has to do that each of them knowing the other was working on deals for the csra. WHats next CSRA????

I would think today's announcement would speed up Bass Pro's opening date... 2015 date is probably out the window now.

This is great but why are these announced stores soo small though? 42,000 square feet for a Cabela's is tiny. Greenville's is going to be 100,000 square feet.

It may also have something to do with Dick's, Academy, Sports Authority all already being here on top of a number of local businesses with similar target customers. Then throw in the newly announced BPS and Cabela's... crowded market. Heck, throw in the 20 some-odd WalMarts we have around town too.

To get them is great, just don't expect it to be like the one in Atlanta...

Well, Greenville has all of that stuff too including REI. Makes no sense.

I'm not comparing the two cities here or who has what... Greenville is bigger than Augusta, the competition would have more of an effect here potentially than in the Greenville area. I'm inclined to think that there were rumblings amongst those in the business that both Bass Pro and Cabela's knew that the other was going to be coming to Augusta, which could've also had something to do with the size of the stores. It's still a great win for the CSRA and they'll still sell plenty of merchandise at both locations.

With the addition of Cabela's and the new movie theater, the announcement of other future tenants should start to pour in. What tenants are usually located in a Cabela's anchored center? What stores and restaurants do you think will follow?
