Yes, I remember this now, it's basically a huge band aid IMO. That interchange needs a completely redesigned real DDI similar to this.

The first phase of the Berkmans Rd project opens Feb 29th....
Quote:
The $16.7 million project has been in the works for years but officially started seeing construction after last year’s Masters Tour*na*ment. The first phase, which involved moving the northern portion of the road away from the border of Augusta National Golf Club and realigning it to connect with Alexander Drive, is expected to open to traffic by Feb. 29.
The new portion sweeps through parking lots previously used by Augusta National. The old portion will be closed to traffic and used as a service road.
The second phase of the project, which involves widening from Wheeler Road to Ingle*side Drive with a traffic circle, will begin seeing some work after this year’s tournament, such as utilities being moved, but the major changes to the existing road won’t happen until after the 2017 Masters.

A private firm is looking at beautifying Berckmans Rd.
Quote:
A private company called Berckman Residential Properties wants to partner with the city to beautify Augusta.

"If you look at our corridors and our partnerships that we've had in different areas, people from all over the world coming to Augusta you want to put your best foot forward," Atkins said.

The company would be in charge of creating a landscape plan for Berckmans Road and maintain all the landscaping around the roadway in the future.

There's already some new landscaping on the new Berckmans Road, but the city wants to make sure that this road looks its best for at least the next five years.

Commissioner Sean Frantom says there needs to be more public private partnerships across the city, not only around Washington Road, but all of Augusta.

"If you look at the private partnerships that we've had already on Alexander, already on Wheeler Road, already at the airport, I mean proof is in the pudding," Frantom said.

Atkins says it's important the city look into public art for that area as well.

"It shows what you value and what you appreciate," Atkins said.

The lights are finally going up along Riverwatch Parkway. They will see a major improvement for this important corridor into downtown....
Quote:
This week, construction crews began installing about 200 lights to the median in the four-mile stretch of River Watch between 15th Street and River Shoals Parkway. Kyle Collins, spokesman for the Department of Transportation, said it will take about four weeks to complete the lighting portion of the project, and lights will not be turned on until the installation is complete.
Officials said the lights will be one of the biggest changes to the road, creating a route that’s safer, especially for nighttime drivers.
“I know that was a big concern,” Tim Knight, construction project manager, said last month about the new lighting. “I noticed when we started how dark and dangerous it is out here.”
Wiring for the lighting was installed last month, but the project was put on hold temporarily so all lanes could be restored for the increase in motorists during Masters Week.
Overall, the $9.2 million project, which began in October, appears to be nearing completion. After the lighting project, crews will move on to replacing guardrail outside lanes, grading, repaving and restriping.

The Washington Rd widening completion has been pushed back to 2018...
Quote:
This three-mile, $30 million project that was supposed to be finished in 2017 is now going to be done some time in 2018.

Traffic conditions tend to get congested around this area where Washington bottlenecks into two lanes.

This project started in 2014 and aims to relieve traffic problems by adding another lane to each side and creating turn lane for several connected roads.

Columbia County’s engineering division says you can expect traffic shifts from one lane to another in the near future and credits rainy conditions during peak construction months for the delay.

“With the weather we had, typically the best construction months are between September and November and we had a lot of rain during what you consider prime construction time. So that’s put it a little behind as well as we had some utility issues,” said Steve Cassell, director of Columbia County Engineering Services.
