The system is flawed in that it focuses on a select group of areas mainly those low income areas of town. The system is also not centrally located so sending buses out to Hephzibah and beyond becomes a logistical problem. What the system needs is a central hub and a few smaller hubs. The system should also explore expanding into Columbia County and Aiken County especially with the cyber movement on the horizon. It could also stand to rebrand. The APT is bland, maybe some like the Greater Augusta Area Transit Authority (GATA). If the system really wants to change it has to focus on improving times and dates and make it worthwhile for people to use.

Agree with many of these ideas especially rebranding, downtown would be the ideal location for a hub if expansion into Aiken and Columbia counties happen, if not then Apt should really look into locating a hub in S. Augusta and add a couple crosstown routes. Currently someone traveling from the southern portions of the city via APT has to go downtown to get to the western portions of the city deterring many from using the system.
Just to throw a rebranded name in the pile CART " Connecting Augusta Regionally thru Transit " or Columbia, Aiken, Richmond Transit. Easy slogan Go CART.

I was looking over at the projects section of GDOT's website and found a few details on projects planned in Augusta-Richmond County over the next 10 years. Here's a breakdown of the projects:

The Riverwatch Parkway median project; This project will replace the current metal guardrail with a concrete median and add lights to Riverwatch Parkway between River Shoals Pkwy to Jones Street. It will be constructed this year in conjunction with the planned resurfacing of Riverwatch between 15th and the county line, plus intersection improvements at I-20, Furys Ferry and Stevens Creek Road.

John Calhoun Expressway resurfacing; This project will consist of reconstructing the asphalt shoulders and diamond grinding the driving surface of the expressway between Broad Street and Greene Street. It will also upgrade the lighting along the expressway(the new lighting will be similar to the new lights along Broad Street), landscaping and bridge work.

Peach Orchard Road widening; This project will widen U.S. 25/Peach Orchard Road to six lanes between Browns Road and Tobacco Road. The $25 million project is not apart of the TSPLOST and will start in 2020.

This project seems like a waste, hwy 25 could really use traffic lights @ brown & willis Foreman and an over pass at the railroad not an extra lane.

@ TravelingMat... are you aware there used to be an overpass of the railroad tracks?

Back to the future...

Yes, I remember when there was an overpass over those railroad tracks. The widening won't start until 2020??

I'm glad..Windsor Spring and Mike Padgett are already being widening and I use 25 more because of that. In fact a lot of people use 25 due to the work on Mike padgett. Rather than go to the old waynesboro/mike padgett intersection, I go all the way around to Brown Rd and Peach Orchard Rd.

I can definitely see the need for the widening during rush hours as I have been caught at the Tobacco Rd Peach Orchard light for 2 to 3 cycles during rush hour coming up Peach Orchard.
