I brought up this idea in the past. I think both schools as well as the SEC would be on board with it, however Augusta does not have a venue large enough to make it worthwhile.

Neither one of the schools are willing to lose a home game in this tough conference. But Augusta can be a great pre game and post game destination, right on the Savannah. Augusta has the name cache to attract big SEC investor/football crowd to the city.

^ I guess hosting the "Super Bowl" of golf every year does nothing for the city.^

Obviously it does something. I was just confused about what he was referring to.

I could see how Augusta might be a stopover to get gas and a bite to eat on the way to or from Athens or Columbia, depending on which city the game is being played in that year. But it hardly compares to the Georgia-Florida game in Jacksonville, which is a 50-50 ticket splt and therefore draws thousands more opposing fans from both teams. The best Augusta could hope for is the 10,000 or so fans with tickets who cross the border to either stadium. And all of them DO NOT travel straight down I-20 and through Augusta to get to the game.

Also, Jacksonville is far enough from Athens (and presumably Gainesvile) to be a weekend "getaway" for fans. Nobody who lives in Metro Atlanta, or Athens, or Metro Columbia, is going to waste $$ in Augusta when they can travel to the game and be back home again at a reasonable hour.

As for the suggestion of an SEC Football museum in Augusta .... why? Just why?! Augusta has ZERO connection to SEC football. If the "home of the Super Bowl of golf" couldn't even support a Golf Hall of Fame, what on earth makes you think Augusta could support an SEC football museum?!
