The GGHF and the botanical garden are the same thing, because the GGHF was never completed... The proposed 55,000 SQ. FT. building never came to fruition..

The state of Georgia was behind the GGHF and not the leaders of Augusta..

The people driving on I-20 and I-520 have to get off the interstate to actually visit Augusta.. The majority of people driving on I-520 live in the CSRA anyway..

The Border Bash is located downtown and you guys want the event to expand.. How is that not considered force feeding things downtown?
Like I just said the botanical garden was a bad idea... did you not catch that part? If it was just a "museum" going up in the west Augusta area, where the Augusta National, it would have done a lot better than it did.

Ok....

I enjoy the Border Bash every year, but only wanted to point out the other larger existing festivals/events(Hispanic Festival, Westobou, Southern Nationals, Arts in the Heart, etc)..

Well there was a crew from CBS at borderbash this year filming footage it aired during the pregame segment so I would assume it's getting more popular.

Several downtown business owners have gotten together to start a downtown promotion initiative. Hopefully it is successful and they can expand to tv advertising.

More than 70 businesses will welcome GRU students and employees to downtown on Thursday with special offerings and discounts.

Go Downtown is a partnership with Georgia Regents University, the Mayor’s Office and the Downtown Development Authority to promote downtown and extend campus life to the urban core.

The inaugural event launched in January and will occur on the third Thursday of the month during the school year.

While GRU receives merchant discounts, the general public is also invited to visit downtown and attend a block party on MacCarten Street from 6 to 9 p.m. with the band, Funk You, performing.

University shuttles will run from 4 to 9:30 p.m. and the Arts Council will be on hand to sell Arts in the Heart Admission badges at a discount.

For more information, contact the DDA at 706-722-8000 or visit Downtown Development Authority of Augusta, Georgia

Hopefully they expand this to year round then just the school year.

They need to promote it better (or at all, actually). There was an email sent out in the spring semester to all GRU/GRHealth employees announcing it, but it had zero info on participating vendors and zero info on how to catch a shuttle down there (shuttles ran all day in the spring). Since then there MIGHT have been a single story online in the GReport mentioning it. Very poorly promoted.

Sadly, that's nothing new. A lot of events are poorly promoted here.
