The public transit system in Augusta is very poor... they have recently cut back on the bus schedule and eliminated several routes.. they were rven going to cut out sunday service alltogether until ppl staged a big protest. I feel for anyone who has to rely on public transit in Augusta.. but since this is an elderly couple they may qualify for special transport service for the elderly and disabled. There are several new condos being constructed in downtown. Not sure their price range.. but you should be able to find a diversity of prices. St Johns tower is an apt building on Green street for elderly ppl.. But most of your nicer shopping centers are going to be out on the westside.. washington Rd and Wrightsboro rd and wheeler Rd areas.. but that is an awful area to be in if you don't have a car... it is very pedestrian unfriendly area.
