That part of 520 is definitely underutilized. There' will probably be development mainly along the 3 interchanges on that end that will probably result in more usage, but I still think 520 should have been routed differently and gone closer to Aiken.

While not really related, stories like this Deputies on scene of accident, vehicle fire on I-20W at state line, to me make a case for widening I-20 in Aiken County and putting more safety features along this stretch of interstate. It seems like every week, there is an accident on I-20 in Aiken County which shuts it down or blocks lanes. Recently, the stretch of I-20 between Atlanta and Columbia was named one of the 50 deadliest stretches of interstate in the nation.

I 20 is definitely dangerous at the river crossing and I think that has a lot to do with the lane reduction. As I see it I 20 should be widened to 3 lanes each side in Aiken Co from the state line to I520 (Palmetto Parkway) interchange.
