100% correct. The bias on here is hilarious and I just laugh it off.

Yes especially if it were to be filmed in Evans.

And others laugh at the cheerleaders... even when they get a new team...

The guy heading this film office is a complete charlatan.. Just look at his history. I put him in the same category as Benjamin Bell and Cherles Collins, Jr (google them). So it is hard to have confidence in Augusta's movie recruitment efforts when this is the type of person they have running the show.

Didn't the head of this made up Film Office also promise a big movie studio and productuon facility in the old sibley mills? He has made so many empty promises that have never panned out that it is hard to keep track of them all. Also, it's worth noting that this is NOT an official City sponsored film office. I still don't understand how they get away with callng themselves The Augusta Film Office, as though it is an official city department. The Convention and Visitors Bureau is still the official city apparatatus that filmmakers work with when wanting to shoot in Augusta.
All one needs to do is Google the Owens character and his history. He is all hot air. And he is just phishing for a city position. Augusta can definitely do a better job at promoting itself to the TV and film industry but not with this guy at the helm. His big claim to fame is that he owned a shortlived bar downtown like over 12 years ago that lasted a year, he wrote a bunch of letters to the editor in the Chronicle critical of mayor BOb Young, and he unseccessfully ran for state assembly back in the late 90s as a Republican and then was disowned by the Republican Party when a photo emerged on the front page of The Chronicle glad handing KKK grand wizard David Duke at a campaign rally. All you need to do is google all of this. And this is the person we should entrust marketing Augusta to the TV and film industry? No wonder they have produced such paltry results

I had heard about plans to try to get a movie studio at the regency mall. Don't recall him promising that it would definitely happen only that discussions were taking place.

If it wasn't for brad Owens or the film office, we wouldn't have any films at all. I don't see anyone else jumping in and trying to start their own office. As you said this isn't an official city department so anyone can start a film office but no one else has.

Better yet you could start it since you know how to attract bigger films and call it the Evans film office or grovetown film office since augustas already taken.

In all fairness, there are lots of things here with Augusta in the name that have nothing to do with official city business.

That May be true but the name "Augusta Film Office" denotes that it is a city office. The Savannah Film Office is a city department as is The Atlanta Film Office. They get city funding. THis club founded by Mr Owens gets no city funding and is not recognized as the official city film office. I think howebver the name gives this impression and it can be confusing to production companies, thinking they are dealing with an official city department or liason only to find out later this not to be the case. It is also worthy to note that this club was known as The Southeastern Fimmakers Club and then when Mr Ownes started lobbying for a city paid position he had the name changed to The Augsta Film Office and lobbied the commission to officially recognize it as the city's Film Office. The commission has repeatedly declined to do this. Yet he still calls it The Augusta Film Office and appears in the media as though he is representing an official city agency. I am jusy surprised the city attorney has not issued a C&D to Mr Owens and his group. What he is doing is undercutting the city's efforts to attract film production and just making it more confusing for production companies.
Again just look at this guy's history over the past 20 years. He is nothing but a self-promoter who is always working an angle to either get elected to smething or to try and sell snake oil to unwitting commissioners and the public. He is just another Benjamin Bell or Charles Collins Jr. And the city of Augusta is not being helped in the least by this guy running around all over portrating himself to be the head of The Augusta Film Office.

And I put as much stock in Mr Owens' promises to bring big time film studious to Augusta as I do in Benjamin Bell's claims to bring the southeasts biggest waterpark to the area.

For someone so critical of arc government you should be glad they aren't over the film office.
