It will always be that way. It's more than double the mileage AND the time to use 520 to get from NA to Martinez vs just staying on I-20. The only real benefit I've seen is if traffic is at a standstill between both ends of 520 on I-20. Otherwise it's only really helpful for trucks going between SC and the industrial area of South Augusta.

They dont necessarily have to close it down to replace them they could opt to just build new spans on the outer area for each existing span and then tear down the old spans afterwards.
Saves alot of headaches to especially if they run into delays in the construction.

I'm going to assume exactly for the reason I stated; to get trucks off I-20 in the high traffic area between Riverwatch and Bobby Jones. It's certainly not more convenient or faster for any other normal traffic.

Quick shot from I-20 and North Augusta/Aiken to Augusta mall area, South Augusta, Hephzibah, Waynesboro, etc.
