With Project Jackson and the growth of the Augusta side of the river, DT North Augusta will have a totally different vibe in 10 years.

Quote:
"Foot traffic downtown is pretty bad, not a lot of people walking around, lots of cars on this road it's pretty busy," Travis Still said, the owner of North Augusta Feed & Seed.

Still has seen a lot of cars speeding by on Georgia Avenue, but downtown seems to be lagging behind.

"Not a whole lot of change in the years, this is a family business, but in the 11 years that I've been here, it's pretty similar to what it was 11 years ago," he said.

Over that time North Augusta has stuck to the same plan, until now as the city prepares to update their Comprehensive plan for the city.

"You have an open window here, we've got people that are on the line, they've made major investments, major investments and they're sitting here trying to get this done," North Augusta Planning Commissioner JoAnn McKie said.

McKie says it sets up the city's dream for the next ten years with ten recommendations, such as a downtown master plan, connecting the Greeneway and hiring a downtown development director.

"It starts the new program and as I said earlier, if we don't get on board now, we're not going to have another opportunity in my lifetime because everyone is going to start to say it's too hard in North Augusta, I'm not going over there," Mckie said.

With Project Jackson and new businesses popping up a lot of attention is on downtown, making it more walk-able, decreasing car traffic and creating a better place to do business.
