Hub for Community Innovation moves closer to opening day. The Hub is set to open at the end of June.

Locate off 15th Street where the old Kroger and plaza used to be.

Personally- I believe that The Riverfront Condominium Plaza should be converted back into a lifestyle/shopping center for the river.
I feel as though the Port Royal Project was just ahead of its time.

I know this is last year news. I wanted to show my appreciation for the new business owners and the ones to come in 2023. DDA needs a shout out for the hard work that went into landing new businesses in DT Augusta.

According to the DDA, most of the businesses coming downtown right now are bars, coffee shops, restaurants and office spaces.

New businesses in 2022:

The Glam Suite
Buzzworthy Bubbles
Taste Wine Room
TacoCat
The Munchies Lab
Pho-Ramen'L
Veteran Evaluations of Georgia
The HUB
Kiss Mi Boutique & Braids
Edwards Mercantile & Co.
Fetch 501
Tiffany's Eatery
10Twenty-Eight
AT Development
Georgia Legal Services Program
Augusta Smoke Shop
Buona Caffe
Lily Coffee Tea Bread
Manny's Sports Bar Off Broad
Walton Options
Manny's Sports Bar Off Broad
Pryco Structural LLC
Expansions/Relocations in 2022:

Pineapple Ink Tavern
Sharifa's Hookah Bar and Lounge
Transport Care Services
Flowers on Broad
The Book Tavern
Mellow Mushroom
The DDA says we will also eventually see a hotel on Broad. The $40M project is expected to break ground early next year. Work is also underway on the Lamar Building to become 68 apartments.

Danny McConnell, president and CEO of the Family Y, made the announcement Monday afternoon in the lobby of Discovery Plaza, home of Unisys and formerly Fort Discovery, on Reynolds Street.

“We chose to have this press conference in Discovery Plaza because as soon as the renovations are done, this will be our new home,” he said.

Unisys occupies half of the first floor and the Y will take over the east half of the floor. McConnell promised an aggressive renovation schedule. Services in the current facility will end on Dec. 31 and the new facility will open on Jan. 1, 2018.

A few weeks ago, TaxSlayer announced that it had purchased the building on Broad Street that has housed the Y for the past six years. The Y decided to find a new location because renovation costs to the current building would have exceeded $5 million.

The plans for the new downtown Y include a large fitness area (in green) with a wall of glass facing the river (at top). The other colored squares are locker rooms, a spin room and an aerobics room.

After renovations in Discovery Plaza, the new YMCA facility will house a large cardio and weight training area with a wall of glass overlooking the Savannah River and a separate large facility for group activities. The new location also opens up possibilities for outdoor activities and possibly using the river. However, there will not be a pool.

One of the key additions to the new facility will be parking. The Y members will have access to the building’s parking garage.

After announcing the new location, McConnell had one more surprise – a name change. When the facility opens in January it will be known as Riverfront YMCA.
A Y without a pool??

Why are you bumping a story that's almost 6 years old? Several locations out of 13 of the Greater Augusta Family Y's don't have pools. This isn't uncommon. Only 2 of the 3 locations in the Greater Columbus Y network have pools as well.
