The Food Lion located in the Village at Hereford Farms in Grovetown will close on Nov. 15, according to a specialist who works for the company.

Food Lion has not announced plans to build a new store replacing that location, which is near the corner of Columbia Road and Hereford Farms Road. There are currently two other Food Lion stores in the area—one on Horizon South Parkway and another on Belair Road.

There is also a Kroger Marketplace just south of the Village at Hereford Farms.

The sales floor of the grocery store is around 35,000-38,000 square feet. It is unknown what business, if any, will replace Food Lion.

You know it’s funny when a big box store closes in CC, someone on here like to make or come up with a excuse for it. I’m just saying that’s all.

Believe it or not, yes. Used to be a pretty good store actually, but they just can't seemt to compete with the big boys like Kroger and Pubix

Food Lion's days have been numbered since the 1990's. It did not keep up with Walmart, Kroger, Publix, etc.

Food Lion was good when Ralph Ketner was involved with the operation. When he retired, Tom E. Smith took over. Food Lion declined under Smith's leadership.

Ahold completed its acquisition of Delhaize in 2016. The combined entity became Ahold Delhaize. Besides Food Lion, Ahold Delhaize operates Giant Food of Maryland, Giant Food Stores (Carlisle, Pennsylvania), Hannaford, Martin's, and Stop & Shop.

Ahold previously owned another supermarket in the area, BI-LO, from 1977 to 2005. BI-LO was divested to Lone Star Funds, then became BI-LO Holdings after acquiring Winn-Dixie. BI-LO Holdings is now Southeastern Grocers.
