Augusta Film Office now up and running

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) -- The ribbon is officially cut and the doors are open at the Augusta Film Office. Commissioners, the mayor and film professionals celebrated the grand opening Tuesday.

Getting the building completely outfitted has taken about three years, and city officials say the spot on Gordon Highway will put Augusta on the map for more movies.

The building used to be a Krispy Kreme, but now instead of a kitchen there is now editing rooms, wardrobe, a makeup area and an entire soundproof set. Terrance Williams, with Indiegrip Coo, says every approval will have to go through this office.

“We have everything from trucks, equipment, crew. There should be no reason anyone is going to Atlanta, Savannah or North Carolina. We have everything production needs right here in Augusta,” Williams told News 12.

The location in the middle of Gordon Highway was key. More and more stores are closing their doors there, opening up space.

"It's important to have this investment here because it's showing the business community is concerned about this area," said Augusta Commissioner Dennis Williams.


Three or four movies are already set up to film in the Garden City in 2018, and another is in the works for 2019. Amy Bailey, a producer and screenwriter, says Augusta keeps drawing filmmakers back.

“Augusta makes everything as easy as possible for everyone. They’re opening doors and hustling,” Bailey said. “They spent $500,000 in one week. That shows you the kind of money they can bring in.”
