A 72,581-square-foot grocery-anchored retail center is planned at the southeast quadrant of Columbia Road and Lewiston Road in the Grovetown community in Columbia County, Georgia.

The retail center would be anchored by a 46,031-square-foot grocer with a pharmacy drive through accompanied by 20,820 square feet of additional retail and a 6,000-square-foot in-line restaurant.

The grocery store has not been announced. The size of the the grocery store, 46,031 square feet, and the inclusion of a pharmacy drive through could indicate a Publix supermarket. Publix has opened similar sized stores in the 45m (45,000 square feet) prototype, some with pharmacy drive through. Publix presently operates three stores in Columbia County.

Walmart Neighborhood Market supermarkets are similar in size and have fuel centers. I have not noticed Walmart opening many stores lately.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was a Publix. Over the last few years, the Lewiston Road corridor has attracted numerous grocery chains and with all of the growth in Grovetown, it was only a matter of time before Publix made its way out there.

Walmart has been cautious on opening new stores since it closed Walmart discount department stores, Walmart Supercenter hypermarkets, and Sam's Club wholesale clubs and eliminated Walmart Express in 2016. If the grocery-anchored retail center had a fuel center, common with Walmart Neighborhood Market, then Walmart Neighborhood Market could be under consideration.

Publix continues to open additional stores gradually. It presently has four stores across Richmond County (one store) and Columbia County (three stores). Could Publix be in the process of increasing its store count in the area?

We just had a Neighborhood market open in Grovetown a few months ago.

Since that's right across from the food lion, and right down the street from the Kroger and Aldi, and proposed Lidl my guess is a Publix

If it is Publix, Food Lion #2143, Village at Hereford Farms, 5157 Columbia Road, Grovetown, Georgia 30813-5213, may have issues staying open.

Unless of course Lidl has decided to build there instead which is a possibility.
